to Grounded Yoga & Pilates.

at present we offer one grounded mat pilates & MFR class a week and occasional yoga classes. both can be booked on the homepage

we’re based in the eastern suburbs of adelaide, south australia.

I teach yoga & pilates while studying a bachelor of health science (naturopathy), and raise kids with my husband travis, who runs grounded krav maga self defence school at hectorville community centre.

The methods of movement offered at grounded yoga & pilates are designed to lift your strength and focus in ways that reflect the innate connection of your mind and body.

The physical body.

there’s a cycle: physical movement helps you feel good and when you feel good you tend to want more physical movement.

at grounded, We believe you are more than the sum of your physiology. nurturing and strengthening the tangible aspects of the physical body – muscles, tendons, ligaments, bone tissue and the cardiovascular system – is a great place to start.

we build on this by introducing mindfulness, breath focus and awareness of your nervous systems into physical movement, for a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

Myofascial release.

MFR is a self massage technique, sometimes described as “trigger point” release, that softens adhesions in the fascial networks that wraps around your body tissues, particularly muscles and organs. This eases chronic tension and improves blood & nutrient flow to tissues, which can help motor neurons and muscle talk for a better contract-relax response, assisting powerful movement and reducing muscle fatigue.

Philosophy.

some of the modern practices i study and teach are informed by the traditions of yoga, ayurveda & chinese medicine, grounded in understanding that the rhythm of human life reflects the cycles of nature.

this sense of connection is the basis of all grounded classes.

A prescription for the ‘tonic of wildness’ (Henry David Thoreau) is all that’s required to venture into the science or stories that help you make sense of the world.

We acknowledge and respect the yoga practices taught here come from the sacred spiritual and cultural traditions of south asian civilisations.
